Mental Health First Aid to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

About 1 in 4 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience a common mental illness each year.

Mental Health First Aid training will teach you practical skills to support a person with a mental health problem. Make a real difference to the people in your community.

Participants will learn about the signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide help in a crisis situation.

Prerequisites:

    • Be Indigenous or non-Indigenous person working with Aboriginal people in the community or caring for an Aboriginal person/s.
    • Must be over 18 years due to the content of the course.
    • Course fee provides lunch for both days.

This course is funded and conducted by Peter Gander, Centrecare.
